ABOUT ME

Hi, welcome to my website.

My name is Pieter Verheij and I have been a photographer since 2007. Over the years, I have developed myself as a professional photographer of landscapes, travel, animals, sports, portraits, and family photos. In recent years I have also proudly photographed for the Dutch magazine Hondensport en Sporthonden, where many of my photos are published. Abstract lines and composition are the key features of my work, often resulting in soothing images. What I love about photography is capturing a shot at just the right moment, where everything seems to come together. An expression during a sporting event, a last ray of sunlight through the clouds, a loving gaze between a couple. A family portrait, from young to old. It's my passion to capture unforgettable moments that will be cherished for years to come.

MY WORK

RECENT PROJECTS

Recently, I've been working on several projects. I photographed at the CACIT Netherlands Golden League dog sports event, which attracted many international participants.

Also I've been focusing more on people photography. I love using the colors of autumn to create warm photos of loved ones. Like this couple, whom I photographed for their 44th wedding anniversary.

I regularly take my camera with me when I visit cities in the Netherlands. These photos were taken in the beautiful Bavo Church in the center of Haarlem.

MY PHOTO JOURNEY TO THE HIGHLANDS

BLOG

In April 2025 I traveled to Scotland for the second time. Having visited Scotland before, I already had a good idea of what the landscape looks like and what kind of photos I could potentially take. It's something I've learned over the years, good preparation in photography is incredibly important.

My two-week trip began immediately after crossing from IJmuiden to Newcastle, arriving in the Scottish Highlands near Glencoe. I would be staying there for three days. My plan was to take photos of the Buachaille Etive Mor, the valley along the Three Sisters of Glencoe and take a picture of Ralston Cairn with the Three Sisters of Glencoe in the background. I also spent a morning traveling to Glenfinnan, where the famous train viaduct and the Harry Potter Train can be seen. Unfortunately, it also rained heavily one day, so the Ring of Stealth was out of the question. This will definitely be on my agenda for the next time I'm in Scotland in the spring.

Afterward, I traveled past Eilean Donan Castle to the Isle of Skye. Just like last time, it was cloudy during my visit to the Quiraing, so I took slightly different photos. Fortunately, the following days were gloriously beautiful, allowing me to capture a stunning sunrise at the Fairy Pools and a sunset at Neist Point. On my last evening in Portree, I climbed the Old Man of Storr in the last light.

The next day I traveled to Aviemore, where I would be staying for four days. Along the way, I stopped at Stac Pollaidh for a fantastic climb to the top with spectacular views. The following days I relaxed at Glenmore Beach in Aviemore and went on a Highland Coo safari at Rothiemurchus. Definitely recommended if you're in the area with kids. It's wonderful to pet and feed all those furry cows.

After this, I traveled to the Victoria Hotel in Bamburgh, an hour's drive from Newcastle, for my final two nights. Bamburgh Castle is located next to a very wide beach. It's definitely recommended to stay overnight here before returning to the Netherlands. I was very pleased with the location and the beautiful photos I was able to take there.
